RGW’s Dr. Weichel and Dr. Colyer Author Chapter on Eye Injuries in Newly Published Book

Posted in RGW in the News

RGW physicians and Army veterans Eric D. Weichel, M.D., and Marcus H. Colyer, M.D., are the co-authors of a chapter on posterior segment eye injuries in the new medical textbook Ophthalmology in Military and Civilian Casualty Care, published this year by Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Dr. Weichel and Dr. Colyer address the complexity of diagnosing and challenges of treating injuries to the posterior segment, and the critical need for clear, multidisciplinary communication and coordination among the attending medical team. They note that, whether such injuries occur among military or civilian patients, the ophthalmologist often is working closely with emergency physicians, trauma surgeons, orthopedic surgeons, critical care physicians and other specialists to gather relevant information regarding the cause of the injury and to effectively manage the trauma.

Dr. Weichel spent 13 years with the U.S. Army, and Dr. Colyer is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point.
