Community service to improve human health and well-being has been a hallmark of Dr. Huang’s career since his undergraduate days at Duke University. There, in addition to receiving a Bachelor of Science in Biology and graduating Magna Cum Laude and with distinction, Dr. Huang performed as a violinist for the Health Arts Network, served as a volunteer for the Child & Adolescent Life Program, and received a Duke Engage Grant for a civic project in Uganda. While working towards his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Dr. Huang was President of the Kenyan Pediatric HIV Project, a volunteer for Guerilla Eye Service, and coordinator of the student group ProActive.

Dr. Huang’s post-doctoral training included an internship in Internal Medicine and a residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas. There he served on the Chief Resident Council and also won the Texas Ophthalmological Association’s 2017 Barry Uhr Memorial Prize. Dr. Huang’s fellowship in Surgical Retina was completed at The University of California Los Angeles Stein Eye Institute. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, as well as Medical Boards in Virginia, the District of Columbia, Maryland and California.

Dr. Huang is well published and has contributed articles to leading scholarly journals, including the Journal of the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and StrabismusJournal of Ocular Pharmacological Therapy, and Nanotoxicology. He has also presented research related to eye disease and eye health at a variety of medical conferences.

Dr. Huang enjoys playing the violin, basketball and tennis, as well as cooking and photography.
