Each day, I feel an immense privilege/honor and profound responsibility to be entrusted with the care of a patient’s vision. I strongly believe in cultivating a safe, compassionate environment by forming a partnership with my patients and their families to develop personalized treatments to restore one’s vision and quality of life.

Daniel W. Wang, M.D. is an ophthalmologist, retina specialist & vitreoretinal surgeon at the Retina Group of Washington. Dr. Wang began his professional journey after being accepted into the distinguished University of Illinois College of Medicine GPPA Medicine Scholar Program. Here he earned his combined undergraduate and Doctor of Medicine degrees while receiving multiple scholarships and accolades. He graduated Summa Cum Laude and earned the University’s Chancellor Student Service and Leadership awards.

Dr. Wang’s post-doctoral training included an internship at Macneal Memorial Hospital and a residency in Ophthalmology at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. During his residency, Dr. Wang received the Louis J. Girard Memorial Award and was honored by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology for his excellence in ophthalmological research. He returned to the Midwest to complete his vitreoretinal surgical fellowship at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary where he also served as a clinical instructor. During fellowship, he received numerous honors including the VitreoRetinal Surgery Foundation Research Award, Vit-Buckle Society Scholarship, and during both years of his fellowship, received the department’s Guy H. Chan Fellow Teaching Award.

Dr. Wang has been published in several peer reviewed journals including the American Journal of Ophthalmology, Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmology Retina. In addition to authoring numerous book chapters, Dr. Wang regularly attends and has presented at several international meetings including: the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO).

Dr. Wang has always been passionate in giving back to the community. In New York City, he led vision-screening clinics at the medical student run health outreach program. He also is a strong advocate for language access and assisted with organizing free health screenings for the local Chinese community in Chicago. Dr. Wang continues be involved with medical education and trainee mentorship.

Dr. Wang is board-certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists. He is bilingual (English and Mandarin) and is licensed to practice in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C. During his leisure time, Dr. Wang enjoys traveling, tennis, cycling, and spending time with his family.
