Dr. Reilly started her academic training by graduating with a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from New York University. She then received her medical degree from the Penn State College of Medicine and completed her Ophthalmology residency at the University of Maryland where she was honored by serving as the Chief Resident during her senior year. She completed her surgical vitreoretinal fellowship at Georgetown University Hospital-Washington Hospital Center-The Retina Group of Washington.
Having compiled a formidable research resume, Dr. Reilly has been a primary or co-investigator for several ophthalmology, uveitis and psychology papers. She has made poster and paper presentations at The Retina Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) and the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS). She has received recognition for producing the “Best Research Project” and was awarded a travel grant from the National Eye Institute (NEI).
Dr. Reilly has always maintained an interest in the teaching and educating of residents, first at the University of Maryland and continuing at Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center where she was nominated for the Golden Apple Teaching Award as selected by the residents. She has participated in a number of medical eye missions, educating other physicians on eye examinations and performing comprehensive exams and surgeries on indigent patients in both the United States and abroad.
Dr. Reilly is currently licensed in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia.

John Carroll Society Selects Dr. Gayatri Reilly to Receive the Pro Bono Health Care Award
Dr. Gayatri S. Reilly has been selected to receive the John Carroll Society 2018 Pro Bono Health Care Award. This award is given annually by the John Carroll Society to those medical, dental, nursing, and allied health care volunteers who have made significant contributions in health care to the uninsured and indigent.
Doctors Kevin Wells, Lucas Lindsell and Gayatri Reilly Were Honored with First Place in Their Category at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery
At the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery held May 5 - 9 in Los Angeles, CA judges selected “The Evolution of Pre-Existing Epiretinal Membranes Following Cataract Extraction” authored by Retina Group of Washington doctors Kevin Wells MD, Lucas Lindsell MD and Gayatri Reilly MD to be presented live in the Pediatric/Glaucoma/Retina Category. It was honored with First Place in this division. The talk highlighted features macular pucker that may predict the need for future vitrectomy surgery in patients undergoing cataract surgery.
